America, Land That I Love

by Daniel McNeet on November 14, 2012

Good day, good people.

Respect for others and tolerance are nation builders and the cornerstone of a liberal democracy — the United States of America. It is the land of the future. Lack of respect for others and intolerance are insidious diseases and so is inequality.

I love my country with its good and even with its bad and ugly. Because, I know the bad and the ugly can be eliminated if respect for others and tolerance reigns, and the Intractables in Congress can be motivated to do the bidding and for the benefit of the people.

For devotees of the English language: Incunabula is a noun. It means the cradle period, the beginnings.

America is a country of immigrants who built this great nation. It is the guiding future for other nations. All of our ancestors came from somewhere else. Even the Intolerants, the anti-Semites, bigots, homomaniacs and racists — the ugly-disrespectful Intolerants helped build this nation. Even though we may not like them for what they are or what they say — they have the right to be it and say it. Only in the wonderful United States of America, a liberal democracy, do the Disrespecters and Intolerants have the same rights as the respectful Tolerants.

Ninety percent of the Jews voted for Obama in 2012. Or, did they vote against the decision makers in what they perceived as the Arrogant Intolerance Party? The decision-making Republicans believed they could buy the 2012 election the way John D. Rockefeller, J. Pierpont Morgan and Andrew Carnegie did on November 3 1896. They bribed William McKinley. Then spent millions to get him elected president. In exchange for the bribe and his election, the federal government allowed the three of them to amass enormous wealth, without regulations and without regard for the health or working conditions of their employees. They were defined by the words oppressive, repressive, repulsive and ruthless. They were amoral. Obviously, these three were in the forefront of humanitarianism.

In the 2012 election, Maine, Maryland and Washington State were added to the states which have already approved same-sex marriage. Only in the wonderful United States of America, a liberal democracy, do the lesbians, bisexuals, gays and transgenders, LBGTs, slowly gain the same rights as the Intolerants.

With the exception of Virginia and Florida the South voted Republican. Can we say they voted against Obama because he is black — bigots? Are the southerners still racists? Are they still sulking in their loss of the American Civil War? Did you see or hear evidence that this was true?

Daniel Politi wrote an article for The Slatest, “Poll: Majority of Americans Are Racists”, on 27 October 2012 with a Stanford University professor who helped develop the survey. “A full 51 percent of Americans explicitly express anti-black prejudice, up from 48 percent in 2008, according to the Associated Press. Republicans are far more likely than Democrats to express outright racial prejudice, 79 percent to 32 percent. But the implicit test found that the two are far closer in attitudes, with 55 percent of Democrats and 64 percent of Republicans having anti-black feelings. The AP surveys, which were carried out by university researchers, ultimately found that President Obama could lose a net 2 percentage points of the popular vote due to anti-black attitudes.” Did he because of racism?

I believe Morgan Freeman, the actor, said it best. “I’m not an African American; I’m an American.” This is the right attitude no matter the ethnicity — we are all Americans.

An anti-Obama bumper sticker was sold on a website owned by Ms. Paula Smith. She is from Hinesville, Georgia. The bumper stick said, “Don’t Re-Nig In 2012” Underneath in small letters it says, “Stop repeat offenders. Don’t reelect Obama!” Ms. Smith said she does not believe it is racist. One of the many wonderful things about America is: she is entitled to express her opinion no matter how ill-founded in fact it may be. She and everyone else knows “nig” is an offensive truncation of the offensive word nigger. Racism like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

To be positive about the bumper sticker, one could argue “Don’t Re-Nig In 2012” means do not renege in 2012 and reelect Barack Obama. Giving Ms. Smith the best of it not withstanding how racially offensive she knew the bumper sticker was and she did not want him reelected, is she a typical southerner? Only in the wonderful United States of America, a liberal democracy, do the Intolerants have the same rights as the Tolerants.

Patriarchal America is still oppressing and repressing women. But the defeat of Willard Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Senate Republican candidate Todd Akin in Missouri, and Senate Republican candidate Richard Mourdock of Indiana told America that those who believe in oppressive and repressive policies toward women must end. Only in the wonderful United States of America, a liberal democracy, did the disrespectful Intolerants receive defeat and guidance from the Tolerants.

The Democrats and Republicans in Congress have an opportunity to progress with incunabula. They can be heroes, and embrace all the American people if they will only see it. They must take this opportunity to lay a different cornerstone. It must embrace, represent and respect all of the American people. I hope the Democrats and Republicans move to moderation and realize that this great nation is composed of all colors, creeds, ethnic groups, Millennials and religions — the American People — their employer. This diversity is what made this country great. It will revitalize it and make it greater if: they exorcise the Tea Party Patriots’, the Grover Norquist’s Tax Pledges, special interest groups’, big corporations’ and inequalities’ control of the Democrats and Republicans and replace them with the interests of their employer — all Americans.

The employer is a seeker of dignity for all and for an individual’s freedom of choice. Our present inequality is not the America it should be. It is disrespect and intolerance at its worst. It must be corrected, and it is easily done if the Intractables in Congress will cast off their existing arrogance, ideological restraints and realize they are employees. And like all employees they have the obligation to be dedicated to work for their employer. They cannot continue to be disloyal by working for themselves first. Then work on behalf of the Tea Party Patriots, Grover Norquist and his Tax Pledges, special interest groups’, big corporations’ and produce inequalities. They must consider, contemplate, compromise and vote for what is best for all Americans and do it!

Let equality reign — not plutocracy or oligarchy. Americans are not against paying their fair share; they just do not want to bear the unfair share for the benefit of others — inequality.

What is your thought on the contribution you can make by contacting an Intractable in Congress and telling him or her to work for all Americans for a change in order to bring down inequality and raise equality in the greatest nation on Earth?

I hope this article will give you something to consider and discuss. To be successful you must understand other people’s opinions and care about them.

I care about your opinion. Contacting me with comments and constructive criticisms at Daniel McNeet with honesty and pleasantness their constant companions will always be welcomed.
