U.S. Tobacco Companies Lied to the American Public

by Daniel McNeet on November 27, 2017

U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler ordered Philip Morris USA’s parent company, Richmond, Va. based Altria Group Inc.; Greensboro, N.C. based Lorillard Inc., and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and its parent company, Reynolds American Inc., based in Winston-Salem, N.C. to admit Big Tobacco had “lied, misrepresented and deceived the American public” about the effects of smoking for more than 50 years.

Smoking kills on average 480,000 people in the U.S. per year.

More people die every year from smoking than from murder, AIDS, suicide, drugs, car crashes, and alcohol combined.

Smoking causes heart disease, emphysema, acute myeloid leukemia, and cancer of the mouth, esophagus, larynx, lung, stomach, kidney, bladder, and pancreas.

Smoking also causes reduced fertility, low birth weight in newborns, and cancer of the cervix.

Intolerance and tobacco have no benefits, and they are both poisonous.
