Indifference

In Operation Downfall, a political thriller, the president, vice president and a billionaire are unprincipled scoundrels without a moral sense. They conspire to commit treason and have indifference to the murder of thousands of Americans in order to accomplish their goal — greed and power.

I lived in an environment of oppression and repression. I was young, naïve, stood by and did nothing. Naiveté and young are not offered as excuses for there is no justifiable excuse, just the reality of the time, place and what I did not do. I was guilty of the crime of indifference, but no longer.

Now, I am doing something about it over which I have control in the only way I know how or am capable of doing — writing about it and having my work published. We human beings who have compassion and tolerance must motivate those who are without to have. Because, if we do not, we are guilty of indifference a crime against humanity.

Intolerance in our society is unacceptable conduct, but it appears every minute of every day somewhere in front of indifference. The indifferents who view it do nothing about it. Why? James P. McDonald, the vice president, in Operation Downfall is an indifferent who commits treason to reach his goal of an unitary president — a shift toward fascism.
