Some believe, If you steal material from one author it is plagiarism, but if you steal from many it is called research.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, plagiarism is the wrongful appropriation or purloining, and publication as one’s own, of the ideas, or the expressions of the ideas of another.
I believe Socrates is probably right. “Employ your time in improving yourself by other men’s writings, so that you shall gain easily what others have labored hard for.” If you are an avid reader and are trying to learn and improve your skills by reading other people’s work, it may not occur to you that you are using another’s work and are being unfair or unjust. And therefore if you do, you should be given the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Making a mistake is human, we are not perfect and that is what makes us interesting.
