Good day, good people.

For devotees of the English language: Olamic is an adjective. It means eternal or infinite.

“The best that we can do is to be kindly and helpful toward our friends and fellow passengers who are clinging to the same speck of dirt while we are drifting side by side to our common doom.” Clarence Darrow

A fellow asked me, “Who am I?”

Surprised by the question, I answered it the only way I knew how and believed. I am a descendant of those people who walked out of Africa, across the Arabian Peninsula and arrived in Europe about 40,000 BC. I am just another human who was born on planet Earth involuntarily by my parents who engaged in an act of creation to fulfill their desires. Now that I am here, I am doing what every other human being does which is: try to the best of my ability to survive and be happy.

Then he asked, “Why are we here?

We are here because of chemistry and evolution. The universe has no interest in the occupants of Earth, yesterday, today or tomorrow. Cosmologists have determined the universe was born about 14.3 billion years ago and is without purpose. All of the creatures and insects are also here involuntarily and without purpose. We are all made of star dust and water supplied by the actions of the universe. Evolution has brought us to this point in time. And if someone wishes to send me to meet my maker, they will be disappointed, because my parents are deceased and the universe does not have one.

Theologians of all faiths wish to believe there was a creator. It is called faith, not science. It is a belief in something without logical proof. They have chosen this profession in order to survive and be happy. But remember, they are selling what they have in stock, and like all salesmen they want you to buy it. And, everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how ill-founded in fact it may be.

Then he asked. “Where are we going?

All the creatures and insects will be here for about another five billion years. After that, the sun will run out of fuel, will become a red giant, evaporate the oceans and incinerate the Earth and every living thing on it or in it. Olamic Earth and life is not to be and neither is the universe as we know it. When all of the stars have lost their fuels, the universe will be dark and cold.

There are those among us who believe human beings should be preserved and are looking for another planet like Earth to inhabit. I ask myself this question often when I see man’s inhumanity to man and their other wonderful corrosive attributes. Why would we humans want to pollute another planet and force our violence on it, because we are not smart enough to live in peace with dignity and respect for others on this Earth and in this failed experiment?

What is your thought on the contribution, if there is one, humans could make to colonizing another planet?

Contacting me with comments and constructive criticisms with honesty and pleasantness their constant companions will always be welcomed.
