For devotees of the English language: Illude means to deceive.

Write with honesty and your good reputation will follow.

All you have is your reputation. In Operation Downfall, a political thriller, Mariah O’Leary the heroine has a veracious reputation and a moral sense. She keeps her word when given and is respected. Although she would illude a bad guy in order to accomplish her goal for the betterment of society. What her opponents see is an illusion. It is what she wants them to see.

The reputation of dishonest politicians is quite the opposite of Mariah O’Leary. They will say anything whether it is true or not or do anything whether it is legal or not, if they believe they will not be caught to get elected or re-elected. Maybe, if the politicians who took bribes from special interests and corporation not disguised as campaign contributions and then did their bidding were indicted, prosecuted, convicted and sent to prison for long terms it may be a deterrent, or is this a dream.

I thing Samuel Clemens said it best. “It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”

Then there are the politicians’ twins. They are called thieves. They both have the same mother — amoral and the same father — greed. The thieves are the people in the financial-services businesses who illuded their customers when they sold them securities they said were rated AAA when they knew they were not. Their reputations are well known and are equated with the other scum in the sewer of life — the drug dealers.

The twins believe they are above the law, and so far it appears their evaluations are correct. Maybe, if the thieves, CEOs, who caused the financial problems the American people are suffering as a result of their criminal conduct were indicted, prosecuted, convicted and sent to prison for long terms it may be a deterrent, or is this a dream, too. Where is the United States Attorney General Eric Holder when you need him?

Where is the national outrage over the misconduct of the twins?

Authors of good fiction engage in illusion to intrigue and bring their readers into believing what the author wants them to believe. To do this successfully takes high skills. If the writer is successful at illuding he will build a good reputation.
