Good day, good people.
If you do not wish to literally join the Occupy Movement, protest peacefully which is your Constitutional right in your own home town or elsewhere, bivouac on a sidewalk or in a park, sit in, march and eat gourmet-jail food, then let us find a different way to express our national outrage. A sign carried by an Occupy protester read, “I am a born again American.” And, so the protester was — courageous I would say. At least she did not standby and wait for someone else to do something about it.
The protester was not a member of the Tea Party with their misguided, delusional evangelical-theocon ideas and disintegrating influence. The Cheney regime ruled by fear, and he would have branded this protester as “unpatriotic” or “un-American” which he and his cabal did in his misguidedness to patriots who disagreed with him and his neocon philosophy. At least the protester was engaged in a legal activity as opposed to his treasonous activity of going to war illegally and murdering our military personnel, their opponents-military personnel and civilians.
What is un-American is the Me Society we are living in where money is most important, in first position and above all else. They worship their pagan god — Greed. What do the American people have to do to get the members of Congress to start working first for the people they are supposed to represent instead of the members using Congress as a business to enrich themselves by working first for the lobbyist, special interest groups and major corporations who pay them and receive in full measure what they pay for? The founding fathers wanted members of Congress to have a liberal education and to be disinterested. How do we take the corruption out of Congress and replace it with disinterested? We need national outrage, peaceful outrage and nonstop outrage.
The Me Society of dishonesty, greed and power is an insidious disease. This is anti-Christian. The only cure for this disease is national outrage, peaceful outrage and nonstop outrage until the patient is cured and it must be cured or our liberal democracy will not survive. Every citizen in our country has the right to prosper, pursue happiness, their dreams and have a good life for themselves and their families.
The members of the Me Society blame others — among the others are liberals, Jews, gays, lesbians, unions, immigrants and those who do not believe the way they do repeatedly and relentlessly for society’s problems. This is an old propaganda ploy used by Joseph Goebbels during the Fascist regime in Germany. He told the German people daily that all of their problems were caused by the Jews. The Me Society would like to have an unitary president, a shift toward fascism — a desire of the Cheney regime. Or, as the motto of the neocons and theocons goes, “You’re either with us or against us.”
Every segment of our society has fanatics. George W. Bush had only two categories of Americans when he said, “You’re either with us or against us.” And the “against us” were on the enemies list. CEOs of corporate America, theological conservatives, theocons, new conservatives, neocons, are to the right of Genghis Kahn and wish to eliminate the middle class. The fanatical theocons leaders on the right believe free speech and equal protection for all Americans who do not believe the same way they do are not Christians, and like W they believe, “You’re either with us or against us.” This position is un-Christian and counterproductive in a liberal democracy. Free thinking and speech without fear or reprisal is a basic tenet of the United States. The U.S. was the first nation in the world not to have a state religion, contrary to what the theocons and evangelicals believe when they peddle what they have in stock. Christianity is not the state religion of the U.S., because the founders fathers saw from their heritage the abuse and intolerance caused by a state religion. Tolerance is Christian, intolerance is not.
Tolerant Americans need to work with others who are tolerant and not be fanatical, intolerant, in the approach to cleanse the intolerant theocons from the pulpit. And, return only members to Congress who will work for their employers first the American people, their constituents second and stop taking bribes which are not disguised by calling them campaign contributions or money from super political action committees, PACs. The Supreme Court of the United States has made a serious error in judgment in allowing PACs to give unlimited money to corrupticians who in turn will repay the donors by doing their bidding. Corrupticians in Congress who take bribes have sold their integrity and soul for money. They should be forced to wear the scarlet C for corruption and Velcro patches on their suits to identify their masters, owners and their sponsors. Jack Abramoff, the lobbyist, said publicly he owned one hundred members of Congress. When a member of Congress does the bidding of the briber to the detriment of the American people he or she is a thief. The member is taking money, salary and benefits, under false pretenses from the American taxpayer — theft.
Why is it that Americans who have given their lives to building the richest country in the world have to be concerned about staying alive because the Congress refuses to do what the government is supposed to do — help American citizens who cannot help themselves? As an example, our dedicated members of our armed forces, the military, immediately comes to mind. Can you imagine what we Americans would do without them? We owe them more than we can ever repay.

Thank you for writing this, Dan. I read that there was a pole taken on religion recently, and the stated result was that about 10 percent of the population were non-believers. It should have said that 10 percent ‘admitted’ that they were non-believers because the far right, which came swinging into power in Reagan’s time has built up fear across the board. Their intolerance has caused the death of doctors who perform abortions and the gagging of politicians who are pro choice, but afraid to say so. The Republican party is so adept at propaganda, manipulation and the creation of fear, people are either swept up in their mindless Tea Party like fevers (for ‘God’ for ‘America’) or they are ducking and dodging to stay out of the fray. And meanwhile the good ol’ boys club, the mega rich people and corporations, are laughing – because movements like the Tea Party are really put in motion to protect them. It’s so baldly stated by Republicans now that ‘all we want to do is make sure Obama is a one-term president.’ At what cost? What cost to the American people who are wasting away waiting for progress and change. ‘All we want to do is win’ is what the GOP is saying. “We want our full power back, and we’ll destroy a president, stalemate all helpful laws or create a war to get it.” Dan, I’ve written a few letters to the editors, and signed petitions, and I help fund several organizations who are fighting this fight – but that’s not enough. We should speak out more and let our voices be heard, as you say, in peaceful outrage. Thanks. Jerry
Thanks, Dan. And it isn’t just corruption in Congress that’s the problem, in my opinion. There’s also a “go along to get along” mentality as exhibited by our congresswoman. Of course she’s going along with those who’ve accumulated and gotten themselves into positions of power, over war, over health care, over energy, etc. And “corrupt” or not, those people play into the hands of the corporations who fertilize their reelection campaigns. Congress won’t talk about defunding the wars, developing a single-payer health care system, weaning ourselves off of coal and gasoline as we should be doing. Congress represents the financial powers-that-be, hence we hear “job killer” whenever someone in office dares to threaten the status quo. And the parties can cut off support for those who truly buck the system. The current Republican presidential primary race shows that: nobody really likes Romney, yet he’s going to triumph over all the more outspoken conservatives. At this point, very few Democrats really like the way Obama’s used his power but all the potential progressive candidates know to stay away. And yes, intolerance is rampant on both sides of the aisle, the Republicans using fear of minorities including gays and lesbians, and the Democrats villainizing Tea Party conservatives to both fill campaign war chests and avoid out-and-out discussion of the issues. If the Occupiers and the Tea Partiers had a chance to sit down together and talk things out, they’d surely come to agreements on solutions that leaders of either party would find unacceptable.
